Anemones are usually the first to flower in the spring each year, but our process begins in fall of the prior year.  Anemones come in the form of a corm that we soak prior to planting in late November.  We soak in a bucket of water for 3 hours to allow the corm to expand before they go into the grounds.

Anemones need to be planted into well-draining soil about 2 inches deep and 6 inches apart.  We water on a regular basis throughout winter.  Anemones also need to be covered with a frost cloth if temperatures dip below freezing.  They are truly an easy plant to grow.

Anemone plants have a beautiful green foliage that brighten up any landscape in winter.  The first few blooms can be very short, but lengthen as the season goes on.  The best time to cut an anemone flower is when the “collar” is just slightly away from the flower.  Cut at the base of the plant and enjoy!
